He made history in fashion. He brought history and fashion together, just take a look at his fashion photographies taken in historical sites around the world. He captured celebrities from the 20s century on paper, through his photographs, and thus he preserved their images for history. Henry Clarke is one of the most renown fashion photographers in the last century.

A bit of his personal history: born in 1918, in Los Angeles, California, he discovered his true calling, that of a fashion photographer, in 1945. In 1949 Clarke moved to Paris where he worked for different fashion magazines. The next year he began a fruitful collaboration with the French, English and American editions of Vogue that would last more than a quarter-century. He wasn’t only a fashion photographer, he also took celebrity portraits, Coco Chanel, Sophia Loren, Maria Callas, Elizabeth Taylor, being only few of the big names that posed for him. His photography, be it color or black and white, in an exotic setting such Syria, Mexico or Iran, or with a simple wall as background, always manages to convey the elegant lines of the female body, while the characters, be them fashion models or celebrities of the time, manage to tell a story comprised by the glimpse of the camera’s objective.
